Dr. Ron’s Research Review - January 12, 2010

This week we're focusing on some very interesting articles published recently in the journal Medical Hypothesis on a wide variety of topics, including cancer, autoimmunity, autism and asthma, thyroid cancer and insulin resistance, and cereal grains and hemochromatosis.

Cancer as robust intrinsic state of endogenous molecular-cellular network shaped by evolution

(Ao, Galas et al. 2008) Download

Similarities in features of autism and asthma and a possible link to acetaminophen use

            (Becker and Schultz 2010) Download

Probiotics and autoimmunity: an evolutionary perspective

            (Canche-Pool, Cortez-Gomez et al. 2008) Download

Is gallium nitrate an effective kidney stone, calcified uterine fibroid, atherosclerosis and cataract anti-nanobacteria treatment? A case history and hypothesis

            (Eby 2009) Download

Rising thyroid cancer incidence in the world might be related to insulin resistance

            (Gursoy 2010) Download

Insulin along with TSH functions as a growth factor and stimulates thyroid cell proliferation. Studies show that patients with insulin resistance have larger thyroid volumes and higher risk for formation of thyroid nodules.

Historical "evidence" that electrification caused the 20th century epidemic of diseases of civilization and the ecological fallacy

            (Vocht and Burstyn 2009) Download

Hemochromatosis: a Neolithic adaptation to cereal grain diets

            (Naugler 2008) Download

Air pollution as a potential contributor to the 'epidemic' of autoimmune disease

            (Ritz) Download
